LAPID LEADERS AFRICA ORIENTATION DAY
When Esther Mwaniki, CEO Lapid Leaders Africa identified a skills gap in the Kenyan job market she pounced on the opportunity to mentor and churn a youthful population equipped with problem solving skills. Six years down the line, Lapid Leaders Africa inducted its 10th Cohort for the leadership program on the 29th and 30th January 2021.
Guided by the theme Reimagine the Possible, the youth in attendance were challenged to come up with formidable solutions for the continent as the future is heavily dependant on technology and with the digital transition, Africa will need the next generation of leaders to reimagine solutions in education, health, leadership and entrepreneurship pegged with technology.
Speaking to the 10th cohort of the leadership program, Lenny Wachira a coach at North Point Coaching, noted that the biggest problem with the millenial generation is lack of experience against a pool of readily available information and resource materials. The job market is hungry for innovative problem solvers and the youth are the bearers of newness and creativity, for a generation too knowledgeable the haste for instant success hinders them from going through the process of becoming skilled in their areas of expertise. He emphasised the need of patience, resilience and pliability for graduates as the job market would present them with challenges that would expect them to digress from what they learnt in university.
The two days orientation program was marked with pomp and colour as students came dressed in African regalia to represent the wave of change in Africas youthful leadership. They will undergo a 12 weeks program under the pillars of lead self, lead market place and lead Africa that should bridge the skills gap in the job market by igniting their prowess through self awareness, job readiness and a PanAfrican mindset.
