Lapid Leaders Africa held its annual open day on Friday the 15th 2020. The event aimed at informing the youth on the programs they would benefit from if they became part of the growing Lapid community.

The next generation of leaders getting the Lapid Experience.

One of the social problems affecting the youth is Unemployment, the organization’s Founder and CEO — Ehster Mwaniki ; noted the negative attitude towards the youth in the market place yet most growing businesses need innovators and inventors. Most CEO’s would rather go for experienced individuals when sourcing for human capital even in entry-level jobs, a problem Lapid Leaders is solving by equipping fresh graduates with hands-on skills needed to succeed after University. In their program, graduates are paired with mentors and life coaches who take them through a curriculum that changes mindsets, builds self awareness skills and cultivates exceptional character to lead in the workplace.

Registration for the next cohort ongoing

Speaking to the youths in attendance; Esther Mwaniki- the CEO Lapid Leaders Africa and the first African woman Obama Fellow urged them to be accountable and responsible in all their engagements. That work is about service and being tasked to perform duties at the workplace is equipping one with leadership skills that should see them perform without supervision. She noted that perfectionism was a big problem among millennials as social media paints a grotesque picture of how life should be and this has them believing vulnerability is a weakness; the ability to question self and deeds is presumed weakness and youths are constantly in a battle to discover themselves or feign that they have it all figured out.

Belinda Kakazi from Lapid Leaders training the next generation of Leaders.

She emphasised the need to work as a team in realising one’s full potential and staying humble enough to listen and learn from everyone. The youth need to know how to build their social capital and how it affects their problem solving skills. The goal is to be transformational and that is what youths should aim for.

Esther Mwaniki is the Founder Lapid Leaders Africa and the first alAfrican woman to be part of the Obama fellowship and now the Oprah Winfrey Foundation
